Speaking from personal experience I struggled with maintaining my ideal weight. Heck, I was working out and conscious of what I ate…except a little bit of wine and chocolate here…well maybe a bit more chocolate! But I could not shift those extra pounds. A challenge from a colleague set me on a path of finding what was blocking my progress. And the answer to this was Hypnotherapy.

Our habits are formed before the age of 7

From a very early age, we photograph experiences and store them like computer programs. And then we operate from these. These are stored as representational systems, i.e. visual, auditory, feelings, taste, and smell.

Think of your mind as a giant iceberg. The conscious mind is like the tip of the iceberg that we can readily see. This gives us the ability to drive our car, to operate our computer and to think analytically. The subconscious is the unseen bulk of the iceberg under the water. This contains all of our lifetime experiences, our beliefs, our mindsets, our past learning’s, good or bad. The conscious mind calls on these when required. Once an idea or a belief is thought to be true by the conscious mind (and it may not be), it is stored in the subconscious.

Think back to when you were a child, before the age of 7. Maybe an insensitive teacher or parent made an off hand remark about you.

I can remember writing a poem when I was about 6. The teacher and the class thought it was fantastic. Afterward, they believed I had copied it. Hand on heart it was my own work. But nothing I said could persuade them but I never gave into their claims. That 6-year old me did not imprint their beliefs into my mind. Another child may have taken that into their subconscious, and never attempted anything creative again.

Change comes from eliminating and eradicating those old stored beliefs and ideas.
